Three Major FM in Madurai

Radio Mirchi and Suryan FM announced their entries into the markets of Madurai and Tuticorin over the week. While Suryan FM had two new stations launching in Tamil Nadu in the cities of Madurai and Tuticorin, Radio Mirchi launched its station in Madurai. Earlier, Hello FM had also announced its launch in three cities of Tamil Nadu -- Tuticorin, Madurai and Tirunelveli – for the first week of October.

Suryan FM, launched by Sun Network and Kal Radio, were launched on the same date, thus taking the tally of operational radio stations of the Sun Network to 11.

Suryan FM will wake up Madurai with ‘Sooryodhayam’ at 5 am, followed by ‘Kalai Thendral’ at 6 am. Other programmes on the channel include ‘Anbudan Suryan FM’ at 7 am, ‘Vanakkam Madurai’ at 8 am, ‘Blade No. 1’ at 9 am, ‘Chinathambi and periyathambi’ at 10 am, followed by ‘Ungalukkaga’ at 11 am. Another show ‘Oor Suthalam Vanga’ will be broadcast through OB vans, with the radio station’s RJ visiting several locations, meeting listeners and playing their requests. On the other hand, Suryan FM in Tuticorin will have a similar FPC like its Tirunelveli radio station.

Radio Mirchi FM launched its Madurai station, taking the total number of its stations to 24 across the country. The Madurai station has a mixed content that includes the early morning show ‘Filter Kaapi’, breakfast show ‘Hello Madurai’, as also ‘Ladies Colony’, ‘Kolly Udaans’, ‘Joot’, ‘Mirchi Nites’ and ‘Kadala Kadala’. Radio Mirchi will roll out eight more radio stations by the end of the year to complete a total number of 32 stations in the country.

Meow 104.8 FM, the radio initiative from the India Today Group, was officially launched in Kolkata on October 5. The FM station, with the tagline ‘Thodi Meethi, Thodi Catty’, will have a mix of programming for the ‘she’ listener.

Commenting on the Kolkata launch, Anil Srivatsa, COO, Radio Today Broadcasting Ltd, said, “We are really happy to bring Meow to Kolkata and I am hoping that the women of Kolkata will embrace Meow as a platform that afford them a voice in their lives. The Meow revolution has begun and we hope the women’s movement is a little more complete with us. We look forward to taking Meow to many more cities in the future.”
